What have we learned from 1972? How do we envision living and working together? Covid-19, climate change, traffic change, housing pressures, anti-Semitism and racism are just some of the challenges of the present. The world, society and culture are in profound change, just as they were in 1972. The 50th anniversary of the Games is an occasion to remember, to critically question the present and, at the end of the anniversary year, to look forward.

The legacy of the 1972 Olympic Games has increasingly moved into the international public spotlight in recent years. Its significance extends far beyond Munich and Germany. Even processing and correctly addressing the attack has not yet been completed.

The City of Munich is therefore planning an international conference as a finale at the end of the anniversary year in November 2022. This will bring together all the aspects and topics discussed in the numerous exhibitions and events during the anniversary year, reflect on them in light of the present and the future, and make them tangible with forward-looking models. A collection of the various contributions, concepts and images of the year will be published, seizing upon the memory of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich as an occasion to set out on the path to the future, to discuss the issues relevant for the next 50 years and to present concrete design approaches.
